Advance stage payments
Kevin and Fiona Clifton had always dreamed of building their own home. The opportunity came when they found a plot of land that already had planning permission for a barn-style home within an existing community of three similar homes in Easenhall, nr Coventry.
A skilled carpenter, Kevin was able to carry out much of the work himself throughout the build. He even built his own bespoke doors, using oak planking and a special ‘burning’ technique to highlight the wood’s natural beauty.
The Cliftons financed the build through BuildStore’s Accelerator Mortgage with lending provided by Skipton Building Society, enabling them to receive stage-payments in advance throughout the build.
The plot cost £250,000 (complete with planning permission) and the build costs came in at £140,000 – a little over their original budget. The home was recently valued for approximately £650,000 delivering them a healthy profit.
